Dental Department of SKS Hospital
The Dental Department at SKS Hospital provides preventive, restorative and surgical care for the teeth, gums and mouth. Our dental surgeons treat patients of every age — from a child’s first check-up and a teenager needing braces to adults with painful decay or gum disease, and elderly patients who need dentures or replacement of missing teeth.
Oral health is closely linked with general health. Gum disease is more common and more severe in people with diabetes, dental infections can spread and cause serious illness, and tobacco and gutkha use — common in our region — is a major cause of mouth cancer. As the teaching hospital of SKS Medical College & Research Centre, we look at the mouth as part of the whole body, and our practice follows current clinical guidelines.
The department offers dental examinations and X-rays, scaling and polishing, tooth-coloured fillings, root canal treatment, simple and surgical extractions including wisdom teeth, crowns and bridges, complete and partial dentures, braces and aligners, and dental implants. Being part of a multi-speciality hospital, we can safely treat patients with heart disease, diabetes, bleeding disorders or pregnancy in coordination with the relevant specialists.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about Dental at SKS Hospital, Mathura — appointments, tests, insurance and emergencies.
What dental treatments are available at SKS Hospital?
We offer dental check-ups and X-rays, scaling and polishing, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions including wisdom teeth, crowns and bridges, dentures, braces and aligners, dental implants and oral cancer screening.
How often should I visit a dentist?
Every six months for a routine check-up and cleaning, or more often if you have gum disease, diabetes or a history of frequent decay. Regular visits catch problems early, when treatment is simpler, quicker and less expensive.
Is root canal treatment painful?
It is done under local anaesthesia and is usually no more uncomfortable than a filling. In fact, it relieves the severe pain caused by an infected tooth. You may feel mild soreness for a few days afterwards, which settles with simple painkillers. A crown is usually advised afterwards to protect the tooth.
Should I get a tooth extracted or save it with a root canal?
Wherever possible, saving your natural tooth is the better choice, because it keeps your bite and jawbone healthy. Extraction is advised when a tooth is too badly damaged or loose to be saved. If a tooth is removed, replacing it is important to stop neighbouring teeth from shifting.
When should wisdom teeth be removed?
Wisdom teeth are removed when they are stuck (impacted), partly erupted and causing repeated pain, swelling or infection, damaging the neighbouring tooth, or decayed and hard to clean. Wisdom teeth that have come through fully and are healthy can usually be left alone.
What are my options for replacing missing teeth?
Missing teeth can be replaced with removable partial or complete dentures, a fixed bridge supported by the neighbouring teeth, or dental implants. Your dentist will recommend a suitable option based on the number of missing teeth, the health of your gums and bone, and your budget.
Who can get dental implants?
Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone can have implants. Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking and some medical conditions can affect healing, so a detailed assessment is done first. The implant needs a few months to join with the bone before the final tooth is fixed on it.
What is the right age for braces?
An orthodontic check around the age of seven to eight helps spot bite problems early, and most braces are fitted once the permanent teeth have come in, usually in the early teens. Adults can also have braces or aligners. Treatment generally takes one to two years, depending on the case.
Why do my gums bleed when I brush?
Bleeding gums are usually the first sign of gum disease caused by plaque build-up. Professional scaling and proper brushing and flossing usually reverse it. If ignored, it can lead to loose teeth. Bleeding gums can also be linked with diabetes or blood disorders, so please get them checked.
Is dental treatment safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Routine check-ups, cleaning and necessary treatment are safe during pregnancy, and the second trimester is usually the most comfortable time. Always tell your dentist you are pregnant so that X-rays and medicines are chosen carefully. Hormonal changes make gums more prone to bleeding, so good oral care is important.
What should I do in a dental emergency?
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently and put it back in the socket or keep it in milk, and see a dentist within an hour. For rapidly spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or bleeding that will not stop, come to the emergency department or call +91 86799 11029.
How can I book a dental consultation?
Book online through our appointment page, call +91 86799 11029, or visit the OPD registration counter. For severe facial swelling, a jaw injury or heavy bleeding, come directly to the emergency department or call +91 86799 11029.
